#MOTHERMATE KIRSTEN STANLEY
What is your approach to beauty?
Most importantly have skincare that you can trust. You want to know what you’re putting on/in your body. I like to try my best to find products which are cruelty-free and with no nasty’s, and of course sunscreen is the number one anti-aging product! Take care of your skin, make sure you wash your face morning and night, drink lots of water and apply sunscreen when going outside!
Do you choose natural beauty? If so, why?
Absolutely, whenever I apply makeup I always try to go for a more natural everyday look. Love a good light bb cream, with a strong SPF in it rather than a heavy foundation. I always like to put my eyebrows on haha, before I leave the house and mascara is nice too to give the eyes a little lift. I try to stay away from the nasty’s in makeup and skincare.
What are your favourite natural beauty/skincare products?
For skincare I love face oils. I have very dry skin, so I love applying a nice hydrating/anti-aging face oil (some brands I’ve been using lately are Lira Skincare from The Aesthetic Skin clinic, their hydrating illuminating face oil is amazing, I also like to rotate with Mecca skincare). I do change it up from time to time. When the product is cruelty free and vegan friendly, that’s an extra bonus! I love using Mother SPF sunscreen as it's one of the few sunscreens I found that still makes your skin feel super hydrated.
What skincare ingredients do you say NO to?
Anything that feels heavy and clogs my skin. I do tend to get dermatitis a lot and some products have made me break out more. The more natural the better.
What does your morning routine look like?
Always cleanse, use a serum, face oil is key for hydration and then face cream followed with Mother SPF sunscreen and a tinted moisturiser.
When do you reach for your SPF?
Immediately after my skincare routine is complete. I’m big on the sunscreen even more now, as I’ve been getting a lot of pigmentation when I was pregnant, so it’s extra important when going outside I apply it.
What do you look for in an SPF product?
Again no nasty’s, vegan friendly, something I can also use for Jagger and Sloane that’s safe and no skin irritation. I love a product that’s hydrating and has strong water resistance especially during summer. Anything over 30+ SPF.
What SPF do you use on Jags?
Ever since being introduced to MotherSPF I’ve been using it! He keeps his skin feeling super soft and I found a small amount goes a long way. It’s just nice knowing you’re not putting anything bad on your child’s skin.
What do you do when your body needs to recover? when you’re tired or rundown: what is your beauty hack?
I love using hydrating face masks. I make sure I’m eating foods with lots of good vitamins for the skin and of course drinking lots of water. I’ve also started drinking marine collagen which is amazing for your body.
What is your favourite Detox?
Big fan of lemon and hot water or a home-made fresh ginger juice with turmeric and other goodness! I’ll usually mix in some collagen too. I'll also TRY haha to stay away from any bad food for the week to give my body a good break. I find my skin breaks out as soon as I eat chocolate.
What is your go-to meal when you only have 10 minutes?
Being a Mum now, I must be quick! I’ve become a pro at this now. Avocado on toast is my fav with vegemite and a sprinkle of turmeric on top, it’s a great immune booster. Avocado is also great for your skin. Sometimes I’ll have just avocado on toast with a boiled egg. Tuna and brown rice is also a great meal; you can add some chickpeas too which is quick and easy. I love bananas and peanut butter on toast too.
What’s your dream wellness Vacay?
Rhys and I still haven’t had a honeymoon, so would love to eventually go to a Maldives retreat with him! Somewhere where you can swim in the ocean, have healthy juicers, do a morning workout and then relax, and be off our phones! I would also love a nice Byron bay retreat or spa weekend. One time when I’m back home in WA, I would love to go to a retreat down south and spend some time with my friends and family there.
Best health advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t stress too much! Stress is SO bad for you and I’m a stress head haha. I’ve learnt now to not stress on the small things. Also sleep! Make sure you’re giving your body enough time to rest. It’s amazing how much better you feel after a solid night’s sleep.
What does ageing gracefully mean to you?
It's cliché, but I believe it’s all about embracing your natural signs of aging. My mum is a perfect example of this. I love that she doesn’t wear makeup often and takes care of her skin. There are so many amazing natural products out there today which are so helpful with ageing gracefully.
What beauty advice would you give you your younger self?
Same as above, don’t stress, drink lots of water and get enough sleep. From a young age, I’ve always been good at taking off my makeup at the end of the day and cleansing. I’ve always been huge on applying hydrating skin care too.
Who are your beauty icons?
I have too many. I love Zoe Foster Blake, I love her care-free nature and how she sees the funny side in everything. I also think her skincare is amazing. I love Elyse Knowles, she’s so honest! I love that what you see is what you get and I think that’s a very important quality to have especially with social media today.
