#MOTHER MUSE Lisa Nicolaisen
FEBRUARY 2024
Introducing Lisa Nicolaisen, the founder of Body Pulse Pilates which specialises in Mat and Reformer Pilates, Barre, & HIIT.
Lisa founded Body Pulse Pilates because she was obsessed with movement from a very young age. Her love for movement helps others on their Pilates and fitness journey.
Her classes are for everyone. No matter your level, age or body type, if you want to create strength, flexibility, balance and stability, these classes are for you.
We spoke to Lisa about all of her best tips and tricks to making the most out of your life.
Outline your morning routine for us.
Every morning is different but it usually starts with no screen time and a glass of water before any liquid or food. I then blend my green powder and get ready for exercise. I’m a huge advocate for listening to my body so some mornings it’s Pilates and others it’s strength training or walking/running.
Next up is a coffee or matcha and a nourishing breakfast (my current obsession is avocado on toast or a protein smoothie). If I have some spare time I like to include some mindfulness into my routine (even if it’s just 5 mins) to meditate or journal to reflect and set some goals for the day. I then go in with all my skincare and SPF so that I’m ready for the day!
Do you have an evening wind-down ritual?
Some of my favourite ways to wind down:
- Magnesium salt bath
- Home cooked meal
- Relaxed couch time
- Skincare
- Herbal teas
What is your favourite way to calm your mind?
My favourite way to calm my mind is to have some alone time and practice mindfulness. A long coast walk or gentle yoga class always seems to leave me feeling my calmest.
When do you feel your highest self?
I feel my highest self when I’m present in the moment. Connecting with nature, meditating, and journaling are all ways for me to become present in the now and let go of any worries or stress.
Talk us through your fitness approach – do you mix it up every week/ follow a plan/ do you only do pilates?
My ideal training split is x3 Pilates and x2 strength training with some long walks/runs mixed in there! But as I mentioned above, I love to listen to my body and give it what it needs each day/week.
I also love to cycle sync my workouts which has helped me a lot to understand my body and where I’m at physically and emotionally each week. Some weeks I may be filming more Pilates classes for my online platform so I don’t have as much time for the gym or any other training. Or some weeks I’m super consistent in the gym with a program.
The best thing I have learnt along the way is to not put pressure on your schedule, for me personally, going with the flow and listening to my body has kept me more consistent and motivated to enjoy movement and exercise.
Talk us through your supplement intake – do you take any collagen, green powders, wellness elixirs etc? Or just focus on a healthy diet instead?
I look at food as medicine so I don’t have a super consistent supplement intake. I do take the Naked Harvest greens powder & collagen daily as I love to include it in my morning routine to set me up for a healthy day.
Do you regularly listen to any wellness podcasts? If so, which ones?
I love an educational podcast when I’m driving or going for a walk and these are my
favourites:
What is your approach to beauty?
Less is more. Embracing my natural beauty is when I feel my most beautiful and confident. I have tried a lot of different skincare and makeup to find what works best for me and what I learnt along the way is the simpler I keep it, the better I feel!
Do you choose natural beauty? If so, why?
I like to keep my skincare and makeup as clean and natural as possible. Again, less is more! I try to avoid toxins and choose a healthier, safer and more sustainable option where I can!
When do you reach for your SPF? And is there anything in particular you look for in an SPF?
Every single morning and reapply every couple of hours! I like to use a physical sunscreen so that I know it’s physically blocking the sun from my skin!
Where would you love to do a Body Pulse Wellness Retreat AKA your dream vacay destination?
Somewhere super tropical. For me, island holidays are always where I feel most at peace so to be able to run a wellness retreat somewhere like Fiji would be a dream come true!
What’s in the pipeline for Body Pulse Pilates in 2024? Are any wellness retreats or events planned?
Nothing makes me happier than seeing my online community grow but nothing beats connecting with my community in person so a lot more events & retreats are a priority for 2024!
